Filtisac was the first project created by IPS(WA) in 1965 to provide packaging for Côte d’Ivoire’s coffee and cocoa exports. The company manufactures bags made from the natural fibre, jute.

In 1988 Filtisac diversified its operations, moving into the manufacture of synthetic fibre packaging for the transport of such products as cotton, rice, fertiliser, flour and cement. Continuing its expansion, Filtisac began offering increasingly tailored packaging solutions and helped improve the safety and traceability of transported products.

To broaden its product range and increase its presence in the West African sub-region, Filtisac created or acquired a number of subsidiaries :
  • FASOPLAST in Burkina Faso (extrusion blow moulding)
  • EMBALMALI in Mali (synthetic packaging)
  • COFISAC (synthetic packaging) and Fumoa (metal drums and plastic packaging) in Senegal, to address the packaging needs of West Africa and Central Africa with a firm strategy to modernise production facilities and boost sales.
The company’s success is based on a product offering tailored to an increasingly demanding global market, its operations within the WAEMU, its innovative policy decisions, its competitiveness, and its leveraging of the support of its customers, with whom it has forged partnerships.

After taking over Sisep in 2009, Filtisac created a solid packaging facility specialising in hollow casings made of polyolefin, PVC and PET within FILTISAC. These are manufactured by a process of blow, injection or extrusion blow moulding. With its total mastery of these techniques, the facility produces high-quality polyethylene blow-moulded packaging, and since 2001 has been Côte d’Ivoire’s leading manufacturer of PET preforms.

Such expertise has also allowed the company to meet the varied and rigorous demands of a broad range of sectors while complying with international standards. Its production is aimed primarily at the food, plant, petrochemical and cosmetics industries.

The merger of GFI in 2013 will allow FILTISAC to have a Rope Department in Bouake which manifactures yarn, twine made from polypropylene.

These products have a wide variety of applications:

  • Industrial sewing thread,
  • Guying,
  • Any use of rope in agriculture, port activities and the industrial sector in general.

These products are sold in Côte d’Ivoire as well as in the  sub-region (primarily Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana).

The customer-base of this Department comprises the following three sectors:

  • Manufacturing,
  • Agriculture, and
  •  Informal.

FILTISAC  is ISO 9001 version 2008 certified; The certification was renewed in 2012 and thus attesting the professionalismof its staff and the quality of its products. Since 2013, FILTISAC has launched an FSSC 22000 certification process. As of 2014, FILTISAC is the only African member of EFIBCA, the International Association of Flexible Containers’ Producers (Big Bags) counting 38 members worldwide;

In addition, Filtisac has received an award from the Mano Rivers programme, a multidisciplinary programme run by UNIDO.
